Ceramics New Zealand

OPEN STUDIOS

Mark was brought up in West Southland where he started making pottery with the Otautau Potters’ Club as a teenager. Since then, he has worked with clay on and off for over 40 years. His work is all coil-built and raku-fired using two simple glazes. He is mainly concerned with form, shape and texture and enjoys (most of the time) the unpredictability and randomness of the low-temperature raku and post-firing reduction effects. His ceramics are influenced from a wide variety of sources with the aim to produce quiet, pleasing, contemplative forms that others may enjoy.
