Tim Hawley, a New Zealander, is a direct descendant of the old South Yorkshire family of potters dating back to the mid 18t century in Uk, who held several potteries in the area, and are in many books on English ceramics and examples are in the museums of York, Rotherham, Doncaster V & A etc. The late Andrew Hawley came to NZ in the late 30s for a contract in the china and related business until WW2 started when he served in the NZ Army in Egypt and Italy and in 1947 started the wholesale company bearing his name. Following his early death his eldest son Tim took up the business and apart from nearly 20 years as a professional opera singer in UK and NZ, has been in the tableware industry all his life. The company represented many famous brands incl Royal Copenhagen, Geo Jensen, Holmegaard Glass, Waterford Wedgwood, Churchill, Queens China Royal Chelsea, Aynsley, Furstenberg, Sevres Crystal, RCR Crystal ,Portmeirion, Enoch Wedgwood, Bretby, Casa Buggati, Jab design, Barazzoni, Konitz-Wachtersbach Price and Kensington Potteries, Flux china, Brannams of Barnstaple, Galway and Belleek and developed the Rockingham range of tableware He also served as President of the NZ Tableware Ass
Now semi retired, he has taken up being a potter himself and studied at WA and with other potters and now has his own studio in Karori, Wellington He is a keen collector of 18th and early 19th century ceramics and porcelain and is a member of WPA, The Northern Ceramic circle, U3A Antique group He is the importer of WITGERT German clay makers since 1820 and Old TUPTON ware, KONITZ Germany and REDWOOD Bone china

He is inspired by the early potters but endevours to put his own interpretation on his pots which are wheel thrown and Handbuilt, and Moulded and he works in stoneware, terra cotta , basalt, and porcelain
